Hundreds of J Jayalalithaa's supporters, wailing and grieving, broke down barricades this evening, trying to enter the Chennai hospital where the Tamil Nadu chief minister is in the Intensive Care Unit after she had a cardiac arrest. Her situation has been described as "extremely grave" by doctors.
People also threw stones at the police deployed outside the hospital. The crowd is calmer right now and the police, which is on high alert, have managed to push them back.
