DMK leader M Karunanidhi, who was admitted at Cauvery hospital on December 1 after complaining of re-hydration was discharged on December 7 at 9.50pm.
The 93-year-old Dravidian leader is one of the last pillars of the movement and has famously said, "Karunanidhi is someone who will give rest to the idea of retirement to work without retirement."
The hospital management in a press statement said, "All his vital signs and biochemical parameters have normalized now. He has been advised rest and Cauvery hospital will continue to assess and provide the necessary medical and nursing care to facilitate his recuperation at home."
Earlier Karunanidhi had to undergo treatment for an allergy which rose as a side effect to a medication he consumed. Afterwards, as a precaution, he was admitted at Apollo for re-hydrating his body and pumping essential nutrients to increase immunity.
His illness, had brought the estranged son MK Alagiri to his father's Gopalapuram residence and conversed with the doctors for almost 40 minutes in the presence of other leaders on November 30.
As Karunanidhi left the hospital, he was seen with a mask and a tube inserted in one of his nostrils, which raised unnecessary speculations.
Later, it was informed that Karunanidhi was not only admitted for re-hydration but also a severe infection to his throat which made it difficult for him to chew and swallow food. He allegedly is kept on liquid diet for the time being which might extend until the wound in the throat heals.
