Uttar Pradesh Receives Rs 5000 Crore From RBI To Meet Cash Crunch

Lucknow:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) flew in Rs 5,000 crore in a cargo plane which was heavily guarded to cash parched Uttar Pradesh today, an official said.

The state has been in utter chaos since PM Narendra Modi announced the ban of high-denomination currency notes on November 8.

Soon after landing at the Chaudhary Charan Singh international airport, the money was wheeled into the regional RBI office.

The money was then sent to Lucknow for further distribution across the ATMs and banks. The currency includes new 500 and 2000-rupee notes. The cash will be distributed evenly between the RBI offices in Kanpur and Lucknow.
